Dreams and goals

When my husband and I thought about the childhood we wanted our little ones to have, we knew that to make sure that they were given opportunities to be themselves, pursue their interests, and feel self-confident.  Those goals weren’t always easy to keep in mind on those days that I was exhausted from middle-of-the-night wakeups, or in the thick of a tantrum prone stage.

But just now I sat in our backyard watching my two children laughing and playing together in the fading sunlight & I was struck with such a sense of gratitude.  At one point my 1 & a half year old lost her sandal  and my first instinct was to go help her.  But, I hung back and watched.  My 5 year old son walked over to her & encouraged her saying “you can do it!”  She put her sandal back on and got back into the swing of playing.

This simple moment is a result of years of researching, learning, & figuring out what works best for our family as we use Montessori.  I’m so grateful I knew about the method as we grew our family, and that I’ve been able to see the wonderful benefits of it unfold.
